My assessment approach is based on the specific problems that you or your child are faced with. Educational or psychological testing can be helpful when we want to find out why a child or youth is having persistent problems doing well at school, a college student is under-performing at college. For children and/or young adults it can be quite important to diagnose even mild learning disorders as they can cause emotional distress, and can contribute to the development of other problems. When adults are having problems paying attention or concentration and/or memory issues it is important to figure out what might be contributing to these problems in order to get the right treatment. I offer several types of assessment batteries and a choice between a screen and/or a full assessment.
My clinical art psychotherapy approach focuses on strengthening, establishing, and supporting secure relational attachments, mindfulness, trust and hope. Through talking and art making, children and adults can learn to decrease and cope with difficult emotions and stressful experiences such as depression and anxiety. The art making is particularly useful as it helps both children and adults find words for difficult feelings and provides pleasurable experiences. I have found the art to be helpful for adults and for children. To particulate in art therapy there is no need for an art background as the purpose is to use the art for self expression.
